I use a Craftsman 1/2" drive 32mm socket, a 3/8" drive to 1/2" drive adapter, and a 3/8" drive extension.
Works fine. The only issue is that you can't completely remove the filter cap with the socket, because the intake manifold may be in the way. So just use the socket to loosen it up and then unscrew it by hand.
If you've having a problem with there not being enough room for the ratchet you should probably use an extension.
