More of a tax thing.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Mon, 5 Nov 2007 12:25:08 In Reply to: Re: $3500 below invoice on 2008's?, CWilson, Sun, 4 Nov 2007 15:26:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Marketing support can be deducted from the selling price before sales tax. The same money called a rebate adds to your down payment after tax is calculated at the higher price.
If it's not a public posted rebate, then it can be non tax. If Saab advertises it or otherwise discloses it that it becomes a rebate. GM Employee purchasers have access to a website were they see all the incentives, and because of that they all shift over to the rebate side.
IIRC Owner Loyalty is in fact a rebate.
I've always thought it was kinda' silly as a Saab salesperson to even think about withholding incentive info from potential customers, but not every sales manager in many Saab dealerships feel that way. Some like to be a little trickier than others.
One negative as you point out is that with big incentives buyers assume the dealer is also willing to sell the car for nothing, when the two are actually quite unrelated many times. Saab is an incentive based seller and that cuts both ways.
