I've been following this forum for close to eight years now and have not heard of any actual damage, just warnings from those who don't actually use the PPC. Does the PPC cause the engine to work harder? Maybe. However, if someone where to drive a non-chipped car hard/aggressively all of the time, I think the extra load would be equal to pushing a PPC car once in a while.
My '06 9-3 Aero(V6) with 47,000 miles has had the BSR PPC installed since it was new (I unload and reload the software when taking it in/out for service) and I have had no issues what so ever.
In fact, I can't imagine driving the car without it now. This thing is simply a rocket now. Much easier to pass or accelerate out of trouble.
The only drawback I can think of is too much torque for snowy/icy conditions. Of course, with only a 1 minute upload time, I could easily remove the programming to cope with these conditions (I keep the PPC in my trunk).
