I'm assuming your Saab uses Mobil 1 full synthetic. When I bought my car new, the oil change intervals was 15K. That number was estabolished by the dealer and manufacturer. I thought this may be alittle bit long so I change my oil every 10K and of course replace it with the full synthetic. Keep in mind most of my miles were at that time longer trips (100 miles round trip mostly open highway). Since being in school that number has dropped substantionaly. I usually check the oil and change it around 8000-9000 miles. Even at 10K the oil seems to still be in great shape. I've heard stories of people running up in the 30K and above on full syntec but of course I think that is risking it(especially considering Saab uses a turbo which causes the motor to run hotter). If I stick to my computer it has me looking at 12-18K from my estimates so I usually think about 9K intervals. I have 92K on my car and it runs as smooth as it did the day I rolled it off of the lot so I think the intervals are working. One more thing, since it is a new motor you do run the rick of some random pieces of metal floating around in there from manufacturing so I did start with a 5K oil change to allow anything left over from production to be flushed out.
