Couple of months ago I posted a report on my search for tires -- replacing the OEM ContiPro's on my 2006 9-3 Aero -- and loss of brake power assist on cold start.

Tire update on Yokohama W4S tires: Excellent results with about 2K miles accumlated. Quiet, smooth, very good traction on dry pavement; outstanding braking. Performance in snow and wet as good as or better than Conti's. Price was about $150 each, installed and balanced on a road balancer (duplicates driving loads)by dealer. Compared favorably with Tire Rack, and substantiall less expensive than Michelin or Bridestone. Yoko's also topped Tire Rack's test for similar tires, including ContiExtremes. These are very beefy tires, perhap 1/2 inch wider than Conti's, and I've given up fractional mpg through increased rolling resistance, I think.

Am still using nitrogen as reported earlier, as dealer continues to refill at no charge. Don't know that I'd spend the money again, although cheap enough at $5 per tire. Gives more stable pressure through temp changes, so maybe worth it.

Brake problem was indentified through postings on this website. I referred info to my Saab dealer, and svc mgr elected to proceed with new brake pressure sensor under warranty, as noted in the Saabnet exchanges. This seems to have resolved the problem, as it has not recurred since.

MPG has been in issue in postings recently. With 25K miles on the car, I get about 21 - 22 in suburban driving, and recently exceeded 26 mpg on the road at speeds of 75 mph - 80+ mph. Noticed one time this winter, in nearly all city driving with lots of idling and slow speeds, a drop to about 17 mpg. Highest mpg has been about 30 in good weather and all freeway driving. The new Yoko W4S tires may account for a loss of about .5 mpg - 1 mpg, either through increased rolling resistance or difference in diameter from worn Conti's. My driving style ranges from moderate to fairly aggressive, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Car has been virtally faultless; MPG highly acceptable, and only about 10% drop from 2003 9-3 4 cyl.

Hope this is useful,

SEN
