Have you looked at the prices on any Saab lately? Loaded convertibles are over $50,000, a stripped Aero sedan is $36,000...BMW offers a better car and you can get options without having to buy them within packages unless you want to. BMW generally has a different demographic, but they also can appeal to the Saabophile (if they will give them a chance).
Trust me I have been adverse to even looking at BMW's for years. The car rags have seemed to blindly hand the #1 titles to BMW in every comparison while Saab has almost always been at the bottom of the pile. While the reviewers seem to not have an appreciation for the inherent goodness of a Saab, the BMW is competitvely priced and includes a better paid maintenance program.
I have shared your view of Saab for years until I finally walked into a BMW dealer and actually drove their cars. Do the same and then revisit your post. Saab is a luxury European brand and is priced accordingly. They just fall short in the sensory refinement department.
