SportCombi owners: Have you checked your roof gutters?

Hi folks,
I own a 2007 9-3 SportCombi. When I bought it off the lot last October, it did not have factory roof rails. When SAAB recently announced the availability of roof rails as an accessory, I bought a set and took the car to the local body shop that does all the body work for the local dealership. When the body shop manager removed the existing roof gutter covers, we found several small patches of rust, mostly in the welds where the roof support brackets are welded to the body. I've talked to the general manager of the local dealership, who will talk with GM about reimbursing me for rust treatment in the roof gutter area before th roof rails are installed.
Neither the manager of the SAAB dealership, not the body shop manager have seen this problem before. However, as they note, there is never a reason to remove the roof gutter cover strips to look underneath....unless the owner is having a roof rail installed. The rust was just beginning. But in 4-6 years, the rust would become an issue, just as the car would be coming off warranty.
In short, there is no documented trend of rust in the welds in the roof gutters. However, the current model of 9-3 SportCombi is too young to show major rusting for another couple of years.
Have any other owners of the current generation of 9-3 sedan or SportCombi had the occasion to look under the roof gutter cover strips of their cars? If so, have they seen any evidence of rust? What I'm trying to figure out is whether my car is an exception, or if this condition is the rule.
