I have an '08 9-3 Aero. I have tires and wheels coming shortly, without tire pressure sensors. I was just assuming (maybe hoping) I could drive all winter without the system active. I don't need it, since I'm obviously capable of checking my tire pressure. I could have sworn my dealer told me there was a way I could turn the system off temporarily.
It it takes a Tech II, then I suppose I'm out a few more bucks if I have to run it by the dealer or my Indie to get it reprogrammed.
