Ladies & Gentlemen of the board of directors and senior management:

I understand that Saab is under "strategic review" at GM. That's fine, and surely appropriate under the circumstances. I -- and many others -- hope the outcome is positive.

My 06 9-3 Aero is a better car than my 03 9-3 Linear with launch pkg, and it was among the best cars I'd ever owned at the time. I've owned most GM cars over 40+ years, plus a few others. We've had a virtual fleet of Hondas, and I've owned Audi, BMW, and Mercedes -- in the U.S. and the U.K. I find the 9-3 fully competitive with its European peers, and I chose it over BMW.

You have got it so close to right with the continuing improvements. The 9-3 matches or exceeds its European competitors in most areas, and has the potential -- in my view -- to become a much more widely accepted automobile. The 9-3 seems especially relevant in a time when fuel consumption is significant both politically and practically, and equally so with respect to safety.

A new 9-5 would bridge the gap to the larger Audi, BMW, and Mercedes platforms. Few of us will mind if it's based on the Opel, so long as it gets the same Saab engineering as in the current 9-3.

Most of us understand the issues related to volume vs production cost, and economies of scale. Most of understand business decisions, and marketing and competitive issues.

I hope, along with many Saab owners, that the strategic review finds the potential to not only retain Saab, but to fulfill its high market potential. The Corvette was once dismissed as "plastic trash," Cadillac lost it crown, and Buick offered little that was compelling. Those brands now compete globally on performance, value, and quality. We want you to find that same potential in Saab, along with the potential return to justify the investment.

A whole lot of Saab owners -- and potential owners -- hope that review will be characterized by the creativity and entrepreneurialism that improved the brand already, gave us the current 'Vette, made Buick quality compete with Lexus, and put the Cadillac on competitive footing with European sports sedans.
