OK, well...
I agree that the build quality os saabs is not top notch and I totally hate the cheap plastic interior(especially in the 9-3SS) I really think this is unnaceptable for a $40k car! And yes Saabs are known to have some mechanical, electrical and all types of issues. You know what though, you are guaranteed to have similar problems with any high end european car. I know because I have owned most of them. BMW common problems-Vanos seals, Trans problems, constant sensor failure, front end issues, Coolant system issues, cup holders falling apart, sun roof issues, water leaks through door seals ets, ets... VW common problems- Timing belt issues, sludge issues, a million electrical issues, water leaks through sunroof, through the firewall, through god knows where else, power window issues, coil pack issues ets, ets... Audi-please dont even get me started!!! If you think your saab is badly built and is falling apart you should buy and Audi, you will really start appretiating Saab after owning an Audi!
All and all the issues I had with my Aero have been fairly small and mostly well known and documented( mostly DIYs ) At 100k the car drove almost like new and I am sure that with proper maintenance it will run like a champ for another 100k!
If you want a car that has no problems and requires mostly oil changes and brakes then buy a Toyota Camry( I had one for a minute and I will chose to fall into a coma before owning one again)...and those who want a car that delivers more will have to put up with so me crap...
