I am going through this with my new '08 as well. In fact, I had my free new car Tech II session at the dealer today. After much hemming and hawing they did disable my DRLs, and set the fog lights to work the way I want them to. And they enabled "comfort close". But they refused to touch the TPMS. They did admit that it CAN be set to "rest of the world" mode, where it will not nag if all the sensors are missing. I am hoping to get my hands on a Tech II on Thursday, I'll report if so.
I actually do like the idea of the TPMS, I just think the current sensor pricing is ludicrous. Also - the batteries in them are NOT replaceable, and no-one can say how long they will last. But I assume that as the market grows, the aftermarket will provide cheaper sensors. Though in the case of Saab, the only cars that use the same sensor are Saabs and Euro-imported Saturns (i.e. Opels), so we may well be screwed. Cheapest I have found them is $65 each. They also are an odd size and will not directly fit most aftermarket rims. They can be installed with bands though, rather than through the valve stem hole.
BTW - DRLs are NOT a Federal requirement in the US. They are allowed but not required. They are required in Canada.
