There was one recall on some of the 9-3's (I don't know if 2005 is part of it). There was a cooling line that passed thru the transmission (i guess to cool the fluid) and it could leak coolant into the transmission. The repair is free and easy for the dealership-- a couple of fittings are changed. If you get the vin number you can see if this car was part of the recall and if the work was done. If not taken care of this can result in a dead transmission.

Other than that, I don't know what specifically you should look for mechanically other than the normal check of maintenance records. The first few years of maintenance was free to the owner... If the car is CPO Saab's program was/is second to none bumper to bumper for 100,000 miles.


The interior has some cosmetic weaknesses such as the dash and other flat black surfaces delaminating exposing a shiny plastic underneath. I had this kind of stuff done under warranty w/ no problems.



I STRONGLY suggest that you continue w/ full synthetic oil. That little 4 banger has 6 quarts or so! Great design.

I would also run a Techron Fule injector cleaner thru it a couple times and then 1-2 times a year.
