I have a 2009 9-3 convertible and have had repeated problems with the pinch protection when closing the front windows. The windows would not close fully and drop to the 1/4th open position.

I had the dealer reset them twice when I took the care in for routine service, but the problem would re-occur a few weeks later. I didn't want to make a trip to the dealer just for this problem, because I could use the override switch to bypass the problem.

Two methods for resetting the pinch protection are listed in the manual (one for convertibles, one for all other 9-3's) but neither worked. Then I researched the problem here on Saabnet, and found that I had to clear the system before setting it.

What I did was leave the car idling with the handbrake set, then held down the window with the problem (in this instance it was the passenger side window) while I pulled the switch up and tried to close it. I had to press on it hard (I placed the entire length of my forearm over the window to increase the pressure) but I was able to keep it from closing. I repeated this a couple of times.

Then, I tried to use the one-touch-up method of closing the window. It didn't work, so I knew I had successfully cleared the system.

Then, I re-calibrated the system as described in the manual. For my convertible, it involved holding the convertible-top switch up while the windows went up and down a few times ending with the sound of a chime. The process for non-convertibles is different; I don't recall what it is.

It worked! The window has worked properly for the past couple of weeks.

(Thanks to those who posted earlier posts about clearing the system before re-calibrating.)
