Style and civility... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Sat, 22 Aug 2009 16:59:03 In Reply to: Convertibles" '02 Viggen vs. '04 Aero (2.0T), take2, Sat, 22 Aug 2009 13:22:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 9-3SS verts are definitely more civilized, better handling and better riding. Any OG9-3 vert isn't gonna' handle or ride anywhere near as well as a 9-3SS with it's newer stiffer platform and truly independent rear suspension with Re-Ax rear wheel steering, but for me that just means the 9-3SE or Viggen has more "character". A Viggen is a raw animal, stiff suspension and a lot (but not too much) torque steer. The 2.0T is 210hp, the Viggen is a claimed 230hp, but rumors persist the actual number is more like 250-260hp and the Viggen engine has MUCH more torque down low so the difference is even more dramatic than the numbers.
The Aero is a 6sp, the Viggen a 5sp and the Aero comes in an automatic, Viggens are stick only. I think the tunes in a Viggen are better than the '04 Aero, IIRC it wasn't until 2006 that the 9-3SS got a really good stereo sound. Both the Viggen and the Aero have low front spoiler lips that'll make you cry.
The 2.0T Aero is actually more equal to the standard 9-3SE which has 205hp, but feels peppier because of the higher torque at lower RPMs. You can get all the Viggen seats and bodywork in a 9-3SE only in the 2003 model year, the sport package.
I'm quite fond of the OG9-3 interior vs the 9-3SS, more traditional Saab to me. The back seat is roomier in an OG9-3
