Out of curiousity, are you and your wife relatively small people? Or at least slim? I am rather not, at 6'2" and 325lbs. I too find the seats very uncomfortable on a trip, and I think I have figured out why. The bottom cushion foam is too soft. It feels great in the showroom, but after a couple of hours I find that it compresses into the consistency of concrete. At the same time, this causes me to sink lower, which causes the small of my back to come into contact with the bar that runs across the bottom of the seatback. I found the seats in my '00 9-5 to be similar, but not quite as bad. The seats in my C900s and NG900 were fine on long trips, other than not having adjustable lumbar support.
I am seriously considering seeing if I can have a local upholstery shop make me a new seat cushion out of MUCH denser foam.
