The Tech 2 depending on what package it comes with, what flash cards, connectors, new or used can run you from $1800-$4300 easily.
Lets say you want to change a control module or any other computer sort of item in your 9-3SS, say the CIM module. If you were to purchase just the actual Tech 2, you will also need; -CanDi module which will allow the Tech 2 to properly talk in correct protocol as the vehicle. -Tech 2 flash card which loads into the Tech 2 which has the correct year programming for your said vehicle. This now will allow you to communicate with the vehicle, see data from various systems on the vehicle, reset warning/caution lights for systems and scan all vehicle systems for DTCs.
Then, you have to have "Security Access" to actually tell the vehicle to divorce the old module and marry the new. This can be done by a subscription to TIS2Web on ACD Delco Tech Connect, or the older method of having a hard copy CD of TIS2000 and the inline hardware dongle supplied from GM. Currently the most current method is the TIS2Web.
You can finally now scan the vehicle for any flashware updates to control modules, take your Tech 2 to your PC and upload your vehicles results, download your updated module software and then reconnect with your vehicle and upload the updated software to your modules.
As others said, find a local Indy repair and bring him warm brownies or/or beer... Brownies are always good, but I prefer some good coffee myself haha
