Last month, at the Saab Club of Canada we invited 'Geek Squad' reps to talk about auto electronics and satnav --I posed the same question. Apparently they can integrate one of the brandname head units with steering wheel controls and save the Onstar too (which is my preferred route, whether or not I renew...).
Didn't get a specific quote but it would be an 'additional charge' (needs another piece of electronics). There's nothing particularly idiosyncratic about our wiring (something we can thank GM for--at least post '07). Claim the installation of a remote starter no problem either!
BTW: They were equally disposed to the Kenwood, Pioneer and Alpine units and hinted that the 2010 versions would be worth waiting for ('top of the line' here by May/June). As Pioneer uses MSN for 'live traffic' and that's on it's way out in 2012 (with uncertain replacement) I'm leaning towards one of the new Kenwoods(with 'lifetime' traffic subscription) or the new Alpine.
