The 2.0T in our 2006 9-3SC is rated at 210HP. Running on premium I have achieved a little over 33 MPG at 80MPH in the mountains with the auto box. These engines have a 6 litre oil sump, an external brazed plate water-to-oil heat exchanger for oil cooling, and use a small cartridge type oil filter recessed into the top side of the engine block. No worry of sludge with these engines.
The only downside of the '06 models involves the audio system. Our car has the premium system with 13 speakers (or maybe the sedan has 13 speakers?) including a 10-inch sub-woofer and it sounds pretty darn good. Unfortunately for owners of cars equipped with the base audio system and the mid-level system, the car uses fibre optics to distribute the speaker input signal throughout the cabin. Upgrading with an aftermarket system is pretty much impossible. The '07 and later models dropped the fibre optics techno wizardry.
The car's internal electronics are incompatible with OnStar, (the shark fin antenna is just body bling) and some idiot inside GM had the Bluetooth capability disabled on the North America bound vehicles. All those neat looking telephone buttons on the steering wheel are permanently useless.
The only downside is rear brakes that tend to dust and dirty your wheels. Replacing the rear pads with Akebono Euro pads eliminates this annoyance.
