So many things...

There are a LOT of items that will get wet if you leave the top down (or sunroof open) in the rain. The key mechanism, obviously, all of the electronics for the remote to work are in the console. The TWICE module, perhaps. TWICE is located on the floor, under the driver's seat in the 9-5. Likely the same spot on the 9-3, but I'm not certain. And TWICE controls a lot of things, like unlocking the car with the remote, starting the car, etc.

but yes, the best solution is to put the top UP if you're leaving the car for anything more than a brief time, and it's not garaged.
