1) Nothing different from the 4 cyl. Change the oil on time and ideally use synthetic.
2) The latest V6s are sourced either from GM Australia (Holden) or from GM Europe (Opel). The documentation with the car will indicate when the engine came from. Both are well sorted engines with good reliability records. They are powerful, smooth and quiet. The early V6s in the NG900s were not as good - as indicated by your mechanic's comment. The biggest downside is that they are not especially frugal with fuel, so if fuel economy is key for you, better to stick with the 4, and you can re-map it if the 210/220 hp is not enough for you.
3) There was some reports that on the early XWDs that some of the seals needed to be replaced, but if this car is 'nearly new', then it is unlikely that you will need to do this. Subsequent regular servicing should include checking for this
