1. - can't answer that, always hand wash mine
2. - I've driven in cold weather with top down (freezing) - I don't recall reading you cannot but not saying they don't I imagine they don't want the top to be put down if it has frost on it. I would think if you do it in a garage that is heated or if you warm up the interior first then put the top down it wouldn't be a problem. Get a windscreen for cold rides.
3. I use a case of oil cardboard box - perfect height to still let top down without interfering.
