Emily,
I have a car here with a similar history - in my case the body shop didn't notice that in addition to the radiator being broken, the intercooler was also cracked, and a piece of plastic from the intercooler got sucked into the intake and was lodged in the throttle body blocking it part-way open.
For them to be CERTAIN that all the plastic was out, after replacing the intercooler and checking the delivery air hoses very carefully we also need to remove the intake manifold to check for more plastic bits, and remove the spark plugs and check the compression of the engine to see if the valves were already damaged.
This shop was not adequately prepared to diagnose issues with the car before they started, and it ended up making the job much much more expensive for them in the end than the original repair.
Echoing John, you should get the car to someone who knows the newer SAABs, it was fairly easy for me to see what was happening because I have the correct tools to be able to see that the throttle wasn't closing all the way with the pedal released, but to the un-trained person this issue (engine would crank and crank and crank but wouldn't start) could easily be confused at first glance with a bad engine ECU, large vacuum leaks, anti-theft immobilizer interfering, bad fuel pump, bad crankshaft position sensor, bad ignition coils, etc.
They spent days cranking it over trying to see why it wouldn't start before bringing it to me, I would have had it out the same day if they had been able to find an intercooler faster.
This isn't an assault on your body guys, but sometimes a job will go over the head of who is working on it and you have to call in reinforcements.
Drew
