I have the Onstar hardware in my 2004 Aero convertible too. I "used" the free one year of service, then renewed for one year and then stopped subscribing. I never actually used the service for anything, but had peace of mind in case of an accident or if the car was stolen ( for tracking it down). Then it all stopped when they went digital with no option for upgrading. I got a daily error message for about a year ( on star failure - contact your dealer !) which the dealer said they had no way to turn off. Finally quit on it's own, and now I get the error message about once a month. What a fiasco. I would never pay for Onstar as an option after all of that ( in 2004 it was built in and " free " )
