I use a 2.5 gallon vacuum pump to change the oil in the two engines on my Sea Ray. The pump works fine on marine engines and one reason is that they don't get as hot as auto engines. Many years ago, I made the mistake of trying it on my Silverado. I let the engine warm on the garage, shut off the engine, removed the dipstick and started the suction. It worked fine for about one quart, then shut down. I started pulling the plastic hose out of the dipstick pipe and the plastic hose was like taffy - it was melting and the more I pulled, the more it streched. I let the engine cool off and finally got the rest of the hose out, then proceeded to change the oil the old fashioned way.
Today, I normally use ramps at my son's house for the Saab, but sometimes change the oil in my garage. When I change it here, all I do is use a cheap hydraulic jack at the front jack point, raise the car so I can slide beneath it, put in one jack stand and change the oil. I can do it in about 15 minutes, and that includes waiting 10 minutes for oil to drain... Ron
