I appreciate that there is no way for these cars not to have a lot of "GM" to them, but since the engineering revolt (2001?) they are closer to Saab than the previous-post-93 cars were. I'm on Saab 900 #3 myself - '79S hatchback early production (which was a 99 chassis with an *almost* 900 body), 85S 4Dr sedan and my beloved '93 TC. What I can say is that while Saab may not follow American engineering standards, that's mostly a good thing. The real issue with the '93, besides the slow steering rack leak, the sometimes-leaky slave cylinder, delaminating windshield and the mysterious leaking radiator hose is that the rubber parts are all 19 years old and damned hard to find. I work with rubber for a living and I can tell you it really isn't meant to have that long a service life in the air. I got very lucky back in December when an acquiantance just happened to be sending a '86 900TC to the junkyard with an amazing collection of stuff in it (2 engines and a tranny!) after a falling tree wiped out the top structure. He let me rip (literally!) out the rear window so I could salvage the window gasket to replace a torn one on mine. I found one place in Europe that will still make them - for $150 each!!! Otherwise she's a keeper - no rust, no mechanical issues and she fires over every time. The top is 10 years old and in great shape, everything works (even the "Fasten seat belts" light) and I have put a decent stereo+speakers in it.
Winters in the north are normally very hard on a CV as the top melts/refreezes the snow every day and night. Thank god we've had a really mild winter in upstate NY.
Oh, and my wife thinks I should give the '93 to the kid to drive and take back the truck. I've lived with this woman for 30 years and she still doesn't understand a single thing. They'll bury me in it. Top down, shades on. In one hell of a big grave!
