Hi,
On February 26th, I posted a message about my 2009 9-3 6-speed manual SportCombi occasionally stalling when I slow to 10-15 mph to either stop or make a turn. I would put the car in neutral, and without any notice, it would stall. It would always start right back up immediately thought. The only thing that I did to the car was, about one month before the stalling started, I put a K&N air filter in it. I posted this message and got several replies. Thanks to everyone that responded. I also checked the Saturday night chat room and got some suggestions there also.
Well, the problem is solved!
I wanted to post this message in case anyone else has the same problem.
Here's what I did (in order):
1. Replaced the K&N filter with the original OEM paper one - no difference.
2. Added a can of Chevron Techroline to the gas - no difference.
3. Remove the Mass Airflow Ssensor (MAF) and cleaned with a can of CRC MAF cleaner - no difference. This was a tough one because I didn't know how to disconnect the grey plastic clip. Found out that you squeeze the clip end on the right (facing the front of the car), while pushing it to the left (firewall side), it then moves about 1/2 inch and the electrical connector is easily removed.
4. Someone on the Chat board (Mike9) suggested removing the battery cables and touching the cables together (obviously when not connected to the battery.) He said this will reset the computer qas if you're rebooting a PC. I didn't really wqant to try this because, even it it worked, I didn't want to reset everything (especially the Bluetooth setting). What I did instead, it disconnect both the cables for about 10 minutes. Then reconnected them. The battery setting remained, although I did need to reset the clock. I then took the car on a long (two hour) highway drive to use up the remaining gas (in case it was bad gas). At that point I had just less than 1/4 tank left (I never let the tank go below 1/2). The next morning, I filled the tank, it it's been fine ever since!
I don;t know if disconnecting the battery or taking a long ride(of both) did the trick.
Sorry if this is a little long, but I thought it might be helpful to others.
Thanks,
Mike B.
