perhaps you misunderstood. Not oil in the brake fluid, sir. When the vacuum pump leaks it may leak Oil into the inside the Brake booster servo diaphragm. thus potentially ruining the diaphragm seal.
And as for the pedal feel. it should be rock hard with the engine off. and a bit soft with engine running....
Direct quote From SAAB WIS (workshop information system): "In a situation with an idling engine and stationary car, the brake pedal may feel "soft" and sink somewhat lower than normal when applied. this is completely normal and will not affect braking force in a negative manner."
