Manual Seat Length Adjustment Cable - need help

Following Anders' advise a few months back, I was able to <<almost>> successfully install a replacement seat length adjustment cable beneath the driver's seat of my 03 Linear. Removing the old unit (which had the crimped end that has been redesigned with a metal cylinder end) was a breeze, and as Anders predicted, using a pair of long nose pliers and some fanoodling allowed me to install the replacement.
But, for the life of me, I cannot complete the cable installation - I cannot physically hook the cable end to the small hole in the seat release lever. I can snake my left arm underneath the seat to manually pull up the lever until it its limit, thus relieving tension on the cable as much as it will allow, but I cannot obtain enough cable slack to insert the hook inside the pin hole.
Perhaps if I got a buddy to come over and handle half the task, it would be doable, but I'm not so sure. What am I missing here? It shouldn't be this difficult. Thx in advance for any help you can provide to allow me to complete this repair.
