Used ECM Replacement Successful!

I got the dreaded P0601 code on my 2004 9-3 Arc Convertible back in May of this year but the car ran well for the most part with a few days of starting in limp home mode. The initial diagnosis was done at Auto Zone and confirmed by local Saab dealer. Dealer told me it would be about $1,100 to replace and program the new ECM module. After the initial shock wore off, I did a lot of digging here and a few other boards, I decided to get a used unit. Bought one from All Foreign Auto Parts out of Pittsburgh (great customer service) for $55 including shipping. Dealer agreed to program the unit if I installed it myself! Easy as pie to swap the units and it was programed behind the service intake building. In and out in 1.5 hours for $90! Total cost was $155 for parts and labor.
The car struggled on the really hot days but ran well enough when the temperature didn't go over 100.
This was done in Houston at one of the two Saab dealers left. They came through and their tech did a great job. I checked with a couple of other well known independent Saab shops and only one had the tools and access to the software to do the job but decided to go with the dealer.
