I didn't see a writeup for this anywhere on this BB, so I figured I'd write up the procedure for anyone looking. It's ridiculously easy to do - took me about a half hour because I was going without instructions and I had never done it before. If I had to do it again, it would be 15 minutes, tops.
Car: 2004 Aero Convertible
Issue: ACC fan speed controller fried by 40 amp battery charger
Symptom: Cabin staying on high, even with ACC and car turned off
Procedure:
1.) Remove glove box: Two torx screws at the top corners, two torx screws at the bottom corners and one torx screw with washer inside the glove box. The box pulls right out after the screws are out. You'll need to disconnect the light and the air hose for the cooled glove box.
2.) Remove side kick panel: Remove plastic cap covering torx screw on the kick panel (move seat all the way back). Once out, the panel is easily pulled out. *I'm not sure if this even needs to be done. I did it just because. It might be tough getting the top kick panel out (#3) without this, but I don't know.
3.) Remove top kick panel: 1 torx screw on the left hand side and 1 on the top of the panel, little bit to the right of the center. It then will drop down - easiest to drop the left side first.
4.) The fan speed controller is the silver/black thing directly under the round blower motor housing right in front of you. There are two torx screws holding it up: one at the front left, one at the right rear. It also connects with a harness (gray, right side) and plugs directly into the motor at the left rear. Unplug the harness, remove the screws and it pops right out.
5.) Pop the new one in and then reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.
6.) Crack open something from your remaining stock of summer beers because September is far too early for pumpkin beers and enjoy a working blower motor!
