You could try to put your feet under the clutch and brake pedal and slightly lift them up while pressing the cruise set button.
If the cruise engages, one of the pedal switch have lost its calibration.
Since the switches are of a self ratcheting style, if your foot get caught under the pedal when getting out of the car, you might pull the pedal hard enough to move that self ratcheting pin and it looses its calibration thinking your are pushing the pedal down at all times.
