If you remove the factory stereo from the vehicle, the engine won't start/run since the ICM is missing. Some have installed a standalone stereo system and buried the factory unit in the dash somewhere. It's not something that can just be replaced like most vehicles.

Also, $6k for a 03 9-3Ss is a pretty penny unless it's pristine and has had a new SAI system installed, a new radiator (if auto trans), software updates and the balance shaft chain tensioner and guides replaced.
