Cars are just getting more and more complicated and we need to look at them as a computer on 4 wheels and just like your home PC hates brown outs and power outs, the cars are pretty much the same.
Simply put it can be "voltage storms" going on inside the battery without any traditional signs outside and it knocks out the Network that the whole car rely on to make things happen.
Jumper cables never work when things like that is happening inside the battery. You have to take the faulty battery out of the loop and use another good used or new battery.
