Rear Heat shields for 2.8L Aero

I have just removed the 2 heatshields in the rear of a Aero Combi.
All the attachment fasteners had rusted away and the shields, flimsy aluminum panels were dropping down into our snow (currently 2 feet and growing)
We live in the frozen north (Montreal) and my question is whether these need to be replaced? Our winter probably takes care of any overheating for 6 months but is it wise to plan a replacement for the summer?
Thanks
Bill D
