I've been looking at 9-5 XWD cars lately and they may have some problems that are shared with the smaller 9-3X.
Of the ones I've looked at, no one seems to realize that both the transfer case and rear differential lubricant changed every 30-k miles, so I would ask to see receipts that prove that. It seems that $200 to change the oil turns most people off until the units fail. The rear diff is replaced as a whole, and it;s a whole lot of money.
The drive shaft, called a prop shaft, between the transfer case and rear diff contains 2 universal joints that cannot be replaced. So when they wear out, it's $1100 or so for a new shaft.
Check the Nav system to make sure that you can change the Home location from the default DC location. And, make sure that you can save routes. If you can't it's another $1000 expense to get the software updated.
Also, get a CarFax report done. Over the winter, I looked at two Turbo-Xs in Ohio and both had been involved in accidents... Ron
