As Stephen says yes, must drop the tank to change the pump/filter assembly on the 9440 9-3 for both the 2.0 and 2.8L. The 98-05 9-5s pumps can be changed by access under the rear seat. Must drop the exhaust and tank on 06-09 9-5s.

Having the luxury of running the vehicle until its low on fuel is nice as its lighter to refit the tank if doing the job without an auto lift.
