I have a 6-speed manual 2009 9-3 SportCombi and I always leave it in gear with the parking brake engaged. I leave it in whatever gear I was in when I stopped (usually 2nd.)
Once I left it in neutral with only the parking brake on on an almost level surface at work. When I came outside to go to lunch, it rolled back to within a few inches of hitting another car!
I did like the way my old 1997 900s forced you to put it in reverse before removing the key. I wish the 9-3 did that also.
