2.0T serpentine belt and tensioner removal??? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 11 Oct 2015 12:53:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
OK, I gave up this morning to tackle this another day with better insight and the correct tool.
I removed the plastic engine cover and the air filter box. I removed the right side engine mount (3 hex bolts, 3 E16 bolts). I attempted to remove the engine mount yoke from the engine but the lower rear bolt (E18) was inaccessible from the top side. Since this bolt interferes with the frame I can't see that access from the bottom would be any better.
I discovered that I need a special belt tensioner tool as I don't own anything with a 3/8 square stud that is slim enough to fit between the tensioner and the frame. Is it possible to remove the tensioner with the yoke portion of the mount still bolted to the engine?
What are the steps to perform this job?
Thanks!
I did get to use my ratcheting E18 box end wrench for the first time! I changed out the engine air filter for the first time (9+ years, 72K miles, shame on me). I accidentally re-filled the crankcase with used engine oil - don't ask me to explain but I caught this brain fart before I started the engine. Some memories to savor from a failed job.
