The bad news is my 2002 9-3 SE 2.0L Turbo Hatchback suffered a failure of the timing chain system. Repair cost by the mechanic puts it outside of the realm of possibility. So, I’ve put it out to pasture for now until I can pull the engine and do the work myself. It was planned to be my daily driver so I had to go find something else.
The good news is I have acquired a 2006 9-3 Aero sedan over the weekend. So far I am pleased with it. Only 73K miles so should have a lot of life left in it. It has a very different feel to it, the driving experience, that is. Of the three cars I have to admit that I enjoy driving the C900 the most. It doesn’t have all the technical wizardry of the ’06 and yet somehow satisfies on a different level. I just wish it had the performance of the ’02.
I’ve already noted a few of the typical issues with the Aero that will need to be fixed; door lock mechanism, and fuel level sensor. I didn’t have to look far in the forum to find plenty of discussion on these items.
I swapped out the 17” Aero wheels with worn out Dunlops for my 16” wheels from the ‘02 that have brand new General Altimax RT43 tires. Did not have any fit issues and am happy that I could re-purpose that investment. I wondered if they would lower the ride height but measurements before and after were identical so I guess the tire profile must have made up the difference.
So…pausing my participation in the OG9-3 forum and taking up residence here.
