head compatibility Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Thu, 16 May 2019 06:01:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I asked this earlier, but it was buried in a thread and got no response, so I'll try again.
I've got an '08 2.0T that appears to need new intake valves. I'm wondering if I can just pick up a head from a recycler and install that, or would I have to adjust the timing? I previously did this on a 9000, and it worked out fine but maybe I just got lucky. My options of places to take the car for a full head job are very limited (the only Saab service center within 3 hours of me has declined to quote me on doing the job), so doing it this way puts me in control, as a head swap is something I could probably do in my driveway over a weekend.
If so, what are the year ranges that would work? Car-part website steers me away from heads coming from 2006 and 2010, but I can't see why - the rebuilt head eeuroparts used to sell was advertised to fit all the way from 2003 to 2011. I want to avoid the 2007-2008 donors, since that seems to be where the valve problems are concentrated.
