finally got in the new petcock, used long-nose pliers to work the old one out. Others recommended using easy-out (not enough room for a drill), heating up a blade screwdriver then inserting into the plug (too messy). Never could find the engine block drain, it must have been the newer version 2.0 with a permanent bolt in place of it. In future I will drain by pulling the lower radiator hose, no worries about breaking plastic parts.
