Presently it is "mho" that GM wanted to save wherever possible and simply is /was trying to get away from mechanical locks...which leads to another possible discussion: How difficult would it be to retro fit/ simply change the 9-3, 9-5 ignitions back to the tumbler system? The hole is there, someone into the new printers could possible engineer an insert and use existing NG900 type technology.
Like I stated....imho....
