Hi There,
I've owned a number of Saabs over the years: a 900s, two 93s (briefly), and two 95s. I settled into a used 2004 95 Aero and stayed with it for six-plus years until it developed a habit of conking out when it was idle. I traded it in (that is, the dealership got it for a song) on a 2105 Nissan Xterra that has been great since I bought it. The problem is that my son is now 19 and will need to use the Xterra whenever he is home from college and my 14 year-old daughter will also want to use it when she gets her license.
We will soon need a third car. My wife's idea is to look for a dirt-cheap Prius or something like that for me to drive. But, there's just nothing sexy about a Prius. Plus, now that I am 50 and dealing with the stress of having to care for two family members, Daddy wants a convertible to drive on the weekends to forget about adult life for a while. However, on an English teacher's salary, there are limits on what I can reasonably look at.
That's why I'm here.
I saw a video on YouTube of a guy in love with his 93 convertible, and my inner Saab-lover said, "Ohhhh . . . that looks good." Come to find out that I can buy a Saab 93 convertible with some miles on it that won't cost a fortune. At first.
There's a posting on Saabnet.com for a 2004 93 convertible in all black that has around 85k for mileage. The price seems very competitive, but it's located outside of DC and I live in Charlotte, NC. IF I can convince my wife that this might be a good idea (big IF), I would need to fly up to test drive it before possibly driving it home. Tell me I'm an idiot and should put this out of my mind. Or, tell me what I need to be wary of if I entertain this notion further.
Thanks in advance for your help.
