The wheel bearings used in this model will not fall apart with axle out, because they are double row angular ball bearings and axle do not keeps them together as in ancient designs utilizing taper roller bearings (usually used together with drum brakes on rear axle).

As for car transportation for a few hundred mile distance the safest way is to transport the car on the truck or on a trailer with all wheel off the ground.
