I suspect these were the SAAB Factory Optional Hitch. eTrailer lists them as stocked but without photos. I had a similar issue obtaining a 3500# hitch for my 2008 9-5 last year. eTrailer's website listed 3500# hitches only thru the 2005 Model Year. I suspected the <2006 hitches would fit and confirmed it by checking PN's for all rear end sheet metal under-body parts and saw there were no part number changes from the model's 1998 introduction thru the 2009 MY. The hitch fit fine - neglecting my installation challenges caused by not properly understanding the installation procedure. Install the large flat washers in the body frame rails first, THEN install the bolts using the loop of wire. I tried to install the bolt & washer simultaneously and it did not go well. I hired a local hitch shop to install the two bolts I failed with.

I suspect that SAAB dropped the hitches as a factory option around 2005 and the hitch manufacturer's and hitch retailers have no way to verify fitment to later model years. The hitch linked below is confirmed to fit a 2003 SAAB 9-3. Now to verify if the rear body framimg is the same for a 2008.

OK, I checked my EPC and the RH and LH Rear Body Rails, the under floor structural component that I think is the attachment point for the trailer hitch, was redesigned effective with the 2005 MY. But the old part number has been obsoleted and all of the 9-3 cars from 2003 thru 2010, and all body variants (SS, SC, and CV), use the same current PN regardless of year or body style. Based on this I assume the Draw-tite hitch offered for the 2003 SS will fit a 2008 SC.
