As part of this job, I replaced the coolant reservoir because the 2 inlet pipes were cracked / broken and leaking. I replaced the coolant reservoir.
THEORY: I believe the root cause of error P1312 to be the coolant reservoir leaking and getting into the ionization module which is right below to the two coolant hose connections. I disconnected that cable and found fresh coolant on the conductors. Apparently, that connector is not waterproof despite having a sheath on all the wires. Liquid still can get into the conductors. See pictures.
I used compressed air to clean coolant out and dried with Q-Tip. Then I applied a little dielectric grease to the connector pins in module and re-assembled.
I drove car 20 miles and no Check Engine light yet.
