Hood Won't Stay Shut

I have a 2006 9-3 Aero SC 6MT with 235,000 miles. Several years ago the hood would pop up while driving, so I lubed the heck out of the cable and mechanism at the front the car and all was well until today. The hood latched when close it, but once the car hits a minor bump it unlatches and is only held in place by the safety.
I tried lubing this area again and moved the cable back and forth. It seems to move ok, but release handle in the car feels rubbery, like it's not moving back into place after you release the hood. Also, there are two, for a lack of better, or correct, word, bosses (the things attached to the hood with springs that seat into the frame on either side of the safety release in the center) that have a washer-shaped object at the end. These are what hold the hood closed where the two bars engage the ring at the end of the "bosses". Those bars only move about 1/4" now, I'm wondering if that's the issue. versus a failed hood release cable.
Any rate, if that makes sense, any assistance in resolving this issue is appreciated.
