Hi guys,
I have a 2006 9-3 2.0T with the manual transmission and just shy of 180k miles. I purchased this car about a year ago and have put roughly 2k miles on it.
Recently, under heavy boost, my turbo starts to making a buffeting sound and the power delivery starts to intermittently surge. It's not as violent as a misfire, and you almost wouldn't feel anything if you weren't paying attention to it. It doesn't seem to affect the engine's acceleration, and there are no warning lights or error codes, just affects power delivery. The buffeting pattern is very even and almost makes me think something is flapping and blocking airflow or a hose is fluttering and leaking under higher pressure.
I'm not sure if this is a related issue- I've had issues with the brake booster hose leaking and causing a rough idle, I've not been able to find a lasting fix for this either - replaced 4 brake booster vacuum hoses and it always seems to work at first but fails shortly afterward.
The coils and spark plugs were supposedly replaced within the last 30k miles, so I don't think those are bad. The MAF sensor looks new (I cleaned it anyway), I've replaced the gas cap (the old one was missing a gasket, I've removed and cleaned the intake pipe pressure sensor, the throttle body intake pipe is new (and properly tightened), and several exhaust components are new since the old ones had rusted out.
I've performed the glove test to check the PCV pressure, and it has plenty of suction, so I'm not sure what else to try.
I changed the oil about 1000 miles ago with Mobil 1 0-W40, and I exclusively run this car on Shell 93 octane. I don't put many miles on it either.
Every time I think I've fixed it, the issues seem to come back once the engine warms up again, so I'm stumped.
Anyone have any ideas?
