Mice In The Trunk - 2--3 Saab 9-3

I have a 2003 9-3 Linear. I recently discovered that there are mice living in my trunk. They are getting in through a hole in the trunk that Saab insists is supoosed to be there. If you open the trunk there is a panel on the left (looking into the trunk from the back). You pull the panel downa and you see an electrical board of some sort. Just behind and below the board is an approx 1/2" square hole. The mice have been gaining access to the trunk through this hole as is evidenced by the mess that the mice have made.
I went to the dealer. They patched the hole with some type of sound proofing board. They told me to call Saab. I contacted Saab through their phone center. They told me that they would get the car detailed and that they would look further into my complaint. When I called 1 week later to follow up, they told me that their decision was that they were not responsible because the hole is supposed to be there. They said that they would not even agree to detail the car as they had previously promised.
I sent a letter to Saab. They responded with a brief letter saying that they were not responsible because the hole is designed to be there.
I cannot believe that a car would be designed with a 1/2' square hole giving access to the interior of the car. I think that was probably meant to be covered. Does anyone know if the hole is actually meant to be there? I am trying to fingure out if I have any furhter recourse in this matter.
Thanks!
PS: I will never buy a SAAB again. I have had to call SAAB USA several times and their customer service has consistently been abysmal. My local dealer, Scott Saab - Emmaus, is wonderful, though.
