We went/are going from a 2001 9-3 and a 2001 9-5 to now having a 2004 9-3 Arc convertible (and keeping the 2001 9-5). Overall, I do like the new car -- it's a vast improvement over the old 9-3, I think, but it's hard to compare to the 9-5. The new 9-3 steering wheel looks better, but I like the position of the audio controls on the 9-5 better. While I like the "profiler," I think that the audio LCD screen is a bit over the top. The three-stage heating does a better job in the new 9-3 than in my 9-5. Love the rear park assist. But, prefer the old 9-3 automatic with its winter and sport modes to the new five-speed automatic without winter and sport modes. I guess you can autoshift into 2nd gear each time to mimic winter mode, but that seems to be hassle (and don't really understand why automakers are falling over themselves adding these autoshift thingees -- I've never met anyone who actually uses this).

Overall, Saab did a nice job with the new 9-3, and makes me look forward to the new 9-5. I heard that Saab got a new designer who wants to make more "bold" design statements, but I hope that he doesn't tinker too much. Already, one reason I wouldn't get a 9-5 Aero is that I don't like the ground effects (mainly front spoiler) that they put on the car -- too boy racer for a $45K car. I like the 2002-2003 updates, and the 2004 9-5 Arc looks nice, but the Aero is a bit much.

But I may just be getting old! :)
